Actually, more than preferences, this is a treatise on the ingredients and combinations I dislike.
I have a heart condition that makes it a very bad idea to ingest much caffeine. I can have a sip of caffeinated soda or some chocolate with no problems, but a 12 ounce can is too much.
Don't like the taste, and given my penchant for sugar, my body seems to do an insulin dump when I taste something sweet. This leads to problems when the expected sugar doesn't appear.
Due to a propensity for kidney stones, I need to limit the amount of oxalates I consume. So foods such as spinach and collard greens aren't a good idea for me.
Incompatible with my heart medication.
This stuff tends to give me a sick headache.
A preservative often found in meat products such as hot dogs and jerky, it also gives me a sick headache.
I simply don't like the taste of tomatoes. Their flavour can be covered up with sufficient spices in the case of tomato paste (ketchup is dandy), but the chunky variety quite annoys me.
This is more of a texture issue, I don't like bits of my food getting stuck in my teeth. However, the flavour of almonds really bothers me, as my lizard brain screams "you're being poisoned!". Peanut sauces and peanut butter are fine, but not crunchy kinds.
Yogurt and sour cream taste like spoiled milk to me. It's possible to mask the flavour with citrus or spices (tzitziki sauce and many Indian sauces are fine), but large amounts put me off.
Mostly a texture issue, I think they're icky. A reasonable amount of tree fungus in a Chinese dish is acceptable, but that's about it.
Possibly owing to a traumatic childhood experience with shrimp, I don't like it.
While I relish sushi, pretty much all the cooked fish I find isn't fresh enough for me. Don't be insulted, and don't bother trying.
Another texture issue. I don't like the mouth feel of corn. The taste is fine, corn flour is wonderful. Just not kernels.
Don't like the taste or the texture
Whole fish, chicken wings, drumsticks and so forth just seem gross to me.
I have an ingrained idea that there are two separate categories of food, "sweet" and "savory". Dinner and dessert, if you will. And combining them seems yucky to me. In particular, ingredients such as cheese and peanut butter do not belong in sweet dishes.
Soups and stews generally don't appeal to me, or pizza with more than a few toppings. Hiding stuff in bread isn't something I enjoy, and meatloaf is just icky. French toast just seems soggy.
I would have to cook a lot were I vegetarian, as several staples of ready-made vegetarian fare (tomatoes, mushrooms, squash, bell peppers) are on my "yuck" list.
Other things are fine, I can generally take or leave them. I won't mind if asparagus, eggplant, lettuce, eggs, yams, or whatever turn up.
This document is from memory, I'm sure I've missed some things. I'll update it as required.
